Postdoctoral Fellow - Semiconductor Nanostructure Device Development

SUMMARY OF ROLE
The successful candidate will primarily be responsible to develop device processing and characterization methods for Type II superlattice infrared detectors and arrays in support of existing R&D programs. The development of related new R&D programs is also a responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will:

  • design and implement device processing methodologies and improvements for both single element devices and large format arrays based on Type II superlattice absorbers
  • develop and implement device and array performance characterization tools
  • assume principle investigator responsibility of existing R&D programs, including reporting and coordination with team members
  • develop related new R&D programs
  • present results at conferences and publish R&D papers
  • develop prototype infrared sensing products

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • General laboratory and clean-room practices
  • Direct experience in the assembly, use and maintenance of semiconductor device processing equipment (e.g. photolithography, wet and dry chemical etching, material deposition)
  • Direct experience in semiconductor device fabrication including safety and ESD procedures
  • Device physics or electrical engineering skills to understand optoelectronic device performance data so that process improvement feedback may be efficiently implemented
  • Design and implementation of controlled experiments and statistical process control
  • Computer skills including MS Office
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, strong organization skills with an attention to detail, excellent documentation capability
  • Candidate should be enthusiastic and self-motivated

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • PhD degree in relevant science or engineering discipline
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States

Device Processing Engineer

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct research on the structures and properties of various materials, including metals, alloys, polymers, and semiconductors.
  • Determine methods for fabrication of detector arrays using bulk and QD semiconductor technology.
  • Implement methods for fabrication of diodes with reduced dark current, including patterning using photolithographic methods, etching and deposition methods.
  • Develop and document the processes and materials required to fabricate photovoltaic devices and operation and maintenance of device processing equipment.
  • Design and devise testing methods to evaluate various conditions on various materials, including metals, alloys, polymers, and semiconductors.
  • Perform analysis of test data and failure analysis of non-functional devices.
  • Create computer modeling to study design patterns used during device fabrication and pattern generation using photolithographic methods.
  • Perform experiments to measure and analyze electrical properties of various semiconductor material systems using Hall and minority carrier lifetime set-ups.
  • Prepare reports and data in aggregate and readable formats for use by other scientists and engineers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Physics, 12 months of experience as a Device Processing Engineer, and experience working in a clean room environment and with fabrication of electro-optical sensors and detector arrays. Full time position. Salary: $51,459.00 per year.
